Bake Cheese Tart opened its doors in Singapore slightly over a month ago with much fanfare, with various media reporting their excitement, resulting in near insane queues upon its official opening.
So is all the hype worth it?
During my Bangkok trip last week I made it a point to visit Bake Cheese Tart in Emquartier knowing that queues would probably be much lesser since it was a while since it opened.
Interestingly, there wasn’t a single soul and a small queue started to form only after (a coincidence I assume) I made my purchase (80 baht for 1)
The cheese mousse was soft and fluffy, and extremely generous but what stood out for me was the pastry, which was crispy without crumbling to bits even when handled or after taking the first bite.
The owner’s insistence on selling his tarts freshly baked is one of the key reasons for its popularity, knowing that the taste is at its best right out of the oven.
The size of the tart, however, was rather small, so in terms of the price point it was rather hefty.
They also have a rule that you can’t buy more than 12 at one go, fair enough since you want every one to get a taste of the tart without having to wait too long.
Bake Cheese Tart is one of those things that you probably have to try in your life just to see the hype but after that it’s open to the individual with regards to repeat purchase. Would I buy it again? Maybe not unless the price goes down or I have a major craving. And of course, without the queues.
